The Journey, Not The Destination

I know, I know. Let's start a writing blog, she said. It'll be awesome she said. Follow it! she said. And yet it's taken me, what, three or so odd months to actually start updating it? Haha. So typically me.

So what has possessed me to start today, of all days? Just a random day. I'll tell you why. As of now, I am undertaking an epic journey. Actually, I started this journey back in November, around the 16th, I think. November, that's right. NaNoWriMo. Ha. It's when I had my brainwave, or actually my dream. My a la Stephenie Meyer dream. Yes! That one. The one where I'll write about a vampire that sparkles in the sunlight and falls in love with a mortal girl and it'll go on to become a bestseller and earn lots of money and I'll even write a few sequels and they'll want to turn it into a movie and people will go rabid for it. Okay, so maybe that's not quite what happened, but it did start with a dream. And that dream became the premise my WIP right now, one that I think I'm almost finished writing.

Anyway, back to the point I'm making. Writing isn't about the final end product. Because when it comes to writing, and being an author, I've learnt that there is no real finality. The process goes on and on, like one of those terrible flowcharts you had to learn in school. There's always a next step - another book, a sequel, an interview.

Which is why I believe that this quote is so important to writers, aspiring like me, and even the published ones who have been there and done that. It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey that you take to get there.

My journey? I've just found some amazeball people who have agreed to be my critique partners. How awesome is that? I commented on a crit partners wanted page, with my pitch, and people were actually INTERESTED in my novel. As an aspiring author, that makes me happy. Because if these people are interested (and still are, after reading the manuscript), then what about everyone out there in the big wide world? It's a scary thought, but it's something I'm looking forward to so much.

Got your ticket? Let the journey begin!

Aye Write!

Welcome to my writer's blog. I've decided to keep this separate from my book blog, but you can still contact me through my twitter handle (no point in changing that!).

So me, huh?
I’m born and bred Aussie, but I’ve lived in Scotland for the last three years and only just moved back to Oz to start university, where I’m doing a degree in Literature & Cultural Studies! I love travelling, hence the furthest location I could find to live in!
I collect the most random things, like Minties and Fantails wrappers (Australian lollies!), postcards, snow globes, quotes, photos of other people’s baking and in my spare time am Queen of the Underworld where I rule in a lair of cupcakes and hot, smirking bad boys. And other various YA Lit boys that tickle my fancy. I’m also a closet writer, but we won’t dwell on that right now. Ask me when I’m famous :D
Did I mention I love books? Yep. Crazy about them, especially YA and the classics! When I’m not reading, I’m blogging, which I love! My blog, The Girl in a Cafe, is my thoughts on YA literature and writing!
If you want to contact me, please do so at and I'll get back to as soon as I can! I love mail!
